The logic circuit shown below has the input waveforms 'A' and 'B' as shown. Pick out the correct output waveform.
Structure A
A
Structure B
B
  1. (A)(see structure)
    ✓ Correct
  2. (B)(see structure)
  3. (C)(see structure)
  4. (D)(see structure)

Answer: (A)

Solution

The gate gives a high output only when both inputs are high at the same instant, which is the behaviour of an AND gate. Comparing the two input waveforms, they are simultaneously high during just one interval, so the output stays low everywhere except that single interval. The waveform that is high only over that common interval is the correct one.
