Identify the operation performed by the circuit given below:
  1. (A)AND✓ Correct
  2. (B)NOT
  3. (C)NAND
  4. (D)OR

Answer: (A)

Solution

Each input feeds a diode and the two diodes share a common output through a resistor. Only when both inputs and are held high do both diodes conduct so that the output is high; if either input is low, the corresponding diode holds the output low. This is the behaviour of an AND gate.
