Which of the following given a reversible operation?
(A)(see structure)
(B)(see structure)
(C)(see structure)✓ Correct
(D)(see structure)
Answer: (C)
Solution
An operation is reversible only when the output lets you recover the input uniquely. For gates such as AND, OR or NAND several different input combinations give the same output, so the input cannot be reconstructed and they are irreversible. The NOT gate simply inverts a single input, and from its output the input is fixed without ambiguity, so the inverter is the reversible operation.
