The total number of hydrogen bonds of a DNA-double Helix strand whose one strand has the following sequence of bases is ____.
5' - G - G - C - A - A - A - T - C - G - G - C - T - A - 3'

Answer: 33

Solution

In the DNA double helix adenine pairs with thymine through two hydrogen bonds and guanine pairs with cytosine through three. The given strand contains four guanine, three cytosine, four adenine and two thymine bases, so across the two strands there are G--C pairs and A--T pairs. The total number of hydrogen bonds is .
