Which of the following gives a positive test with ninhydrin?

Answer: (D)

Solution

The ninhydrin test is a colour test for free amino groups, i.e. for amino acids and proteins. Among the options, egg albumin is a protein (a polymer of amino acids) and gives a positive ninhydrin test. Cellulose, starch and PVC do not.
