List-I shows different radioactive decay processes and List-II provides possible emitted particles. Match each entry in List-I with an appropriate entry from List-II, and choose the correct option.
List-IList-II
(P)(1)one particle and one particle
(Q)(2)three particles and one particle
(R)(3)two particles and one particle
(S)(4)one particle and one particle
(5)one particle and two particles
  1. (A)✓ Correct
  2. (B)
  3. (C)
  4. (D)

Answer: (A)

Solution

For each decay, we use conservation of mass number and atomic number.

(P) : Mass decreases by 4 (one ), atomic number decreases by 1 net. Since decreases Z by 2, we need one to increase Z by 1. Match: 4.

(Q) : Mass decreases by 4 (one ), Z unchanged. Since decreases Z by 2, we need two to restore Z. Match: 3.

(R) : Mass decreases by 4 (one ), Z increases by 1 net. Since decreases Z by 2, we need three to increase Z by 3 total. Match: 2.

(S) : Mass decreases by 4 (one ), Z decreases by 3 net. Since decreases Z by 2, we need one to decrease Z by 1 more. Match: 1.

Answer: (A) .
