Which one of the following conformation of cyclohexane is chiral?

Solution

A conformation is chiral when it has no plane of symmetry so that it cannot be superposed on its mirror image. The chair and boat forms of cyclohexane each carry a symmetry plane and are achiral, but the twist-boat form lacks any such plane. The twist-boat conformation is therefore the chiral one.
