(C)benzene diazonium chloride and fluorobenzene✓ Correct
(D)nitrobenzene and chlorobenzene
Answer: (C)
Solution
Aniline treated with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid at 273 to 278 K is diazotised to benzene diazonium chloride, which is compound A. Warming the diazonium salt with fluoroboric acid, the Balz-Schiemann reaction, replaces the diazonium group by fluorine to give fluorobenzene, which is compound B. So A is benzene diazonium chloride and B is fluorobenzene.
