The element that can be refined by distillation is:
  1. (A)nickel
  2. (B)zinc✓ Correct
  3. (C)tin
  4. (D)gallium

Answer: (B)

Solution

Refining by distillation suits a metal that boils low enough to be vaporised and recondensed away from its impurities. Of the metals listed, zinc, boiling near like mercury and cadmium, is purified this way, whereas nickel goes through the Mond carbonyl process, tin through liquation and gallium through zone refining. So it is zinc that is refined by distillation.
