Given below are two statements.

Statement I: During electrolytic refining, blister copper deposits precious metals

Statement II: In the process of obtaining pure copper by electrolysis method, copper blister is used to make the anode.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below.
  1. (A)Both Statement I and Statement II are true.✓ Correct
  2. (B)Both Statement I and Statement II are false.
  3. (C)Statement I is true but Statement II is false.
  4. (D)Statement I is false but Statement II is true.

Answer: (A)

Solution

In electrolytic refining of copper, impure blister copper is used as the anode. During electrolysis, copper dissolves from the anode and deposits at the cathode as pure copper. Precious metals like Au and Pt do not dissolve and settle as anode mud. Both statements are correct.
