Answer the following queries about proteins:
i) How are proteins related to amino acids?
ii) How are oligopeptides different from polypeptides?
iii) When is a protein said to be denatured?

Solution
(i) Proteins are long-chain \textbf{polymers of α-amino acids} linked head-to-tail by –CO–NH– peptide bonds.
(ii) \textbf{Oligopeptides} contain only a few residues (two to about ten); \textbf{polypeptides} contain many (>10), proteins being very large polypeptides.
(iii) A protein is \textbf{denatured} when a physical or chemical change (heating, pH shift) breaks the H-bonds of its secondary/tertiary structure — it uncoils and loses biological activity.
