Describe what you understand by the primary structure and secondary structure of proteins.

Solution

\textbf{Primary structure}: the exact order in which amino acids are linked in the polypeptide — change one residue and the protein changes.
\textbf{Secondary structure}: the shape the backbone takes through N–H···O=C hydrogen bonding — the right-handed \textbf{α-helix} (intra-chain bonds) or the \textbf{β-pleated sheet} (chains side by side).
