Explain what is meant by:
i) a peptide linkage
ii) a glycosidic linkage
i) a peptide linkage
ii) a glycosidic linkage
Solution
(i) The \textbf{peptide linkage} is the –CO–NH– bond formed when two amino acids condense with loss of water.
(ii) The \textbf{glycosidic linkage} is the –O– bridge formed when two monosaccharide units condense (e.g. C-1 of one glucose to C-4 of the next in maltose).
(ii) The \textbf{glycosidic linkage} is the –O– bridge formed when two monosaccharide units condense (e.g. C-1 of one glucose to C-4 of the next in maltose).
