What role do enzymes have in the functioning of our bodies?

Solution

Enzymes are the body's catalysts — globular proteins, each specific to one reaction, that lower activation energy so metabolism (digesting food, releasing energy, building molecules) runs fast at 37 °C and neutral pH. Example: pepsin digests proteins; maltase hydrolyses maltose to glucose.
