Butane reacts with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water following the equation given below

If 174.0 kg of butane is mixed with 320.0 kg of , the volume of water formed in litres is .(Nearest integer)
[Given : (a) Molar mass of are 12, 1, respectively, (b) Density of water ]

Answer: 138

Solution

The molar mass of butane is g/mol, so kg gives mol, while kg of oxygen gives mol. The equation needs mol of oxygen for each mole of butane, which would demand mol of oxygen to burn all the butane; since only mol is present, oxygen is the limiting reagent. As mol of oxygen yields mol of water, the mol of oxygen gives mol of water. This is a mass of g, and with a density of g/mL the volume of water formed is about litres.
