A current of 5A exists in a square loop of side 21m. Then the magnitude of the magnetic field B at the centre of the square loop will be p×10−6T. where, value of p is ____ . [ Take μ0=4π×10−7TmA−1].
Answer: 8
Solution
For a finite straight wire carrying current i, the magnetic field at a point a perpendicular distance d from the wire is B=4πdμ0i(sinθ1+sinθ2)
where θ1,θ2 are the angles subtended by the wire's ends at that point.
For a square loop of side a=21 m, the perpendicular distance from the center to each side is d=2a=221 m, and each end of a side subtends 45∘ at the center, so θ1=θ2=45∘.
Field due to one side: B1=4πdμ0i×2sin45∘=4π(221)(4π×10−7)(5)×22=10−7×5×4=2×10−6 T
All four sides contribute equally and in the same direction at the center: B=4B1=8×10−6 T
The value of p is 8.
