Let A be a square matrix all of whose entries are integers. Then which one of the following is true?
  1. (A)If , then exists but all its entries are not necessarily integers
  2. (B)If , then exists and all its entries are non-integers
  3. (C)If , then exists and all its entries are integers✓ Correct
  4. (D)If , then need not exist

Answer: (C)

Solution

If every entry of is an integer, then every cofactor, and hence every entry of the adjugate, is an integer. The inverse is , so when the division introduces no fractions and exists with all entries integers.
