PHBV is the copolymer of 3-hydroxybutanoic acid and 3-hydroxypentanoic (3-hydroxyvaleric) acid. In each of these monomers the carbon bearing the hydroxyl group carries four different substituents, making it a stereocentre, so both monomers are chiral. Nylon-6,6, neoprene and Buna-N are all built from monomers that have no such stereocentre, so PHBV is the polymer with chiral monomers.
