A 2μF capacitor C1 is first charged to a potential difference of 10 V using a battery. Then the battery is removed and the capacitor is connected to an uncharged capacitor C2 of 8μF. The charge in C2 on equilibrium condition is ______ μC. (Round off to the Nearest integer)
Answer: 16
Solution
Initial charge on C1: Q0=C1V=2×10=20 μC. When connected to uncharged C2, charge redistributes. At equilibrium, both have the same potential V′. By charge conservation: Q0=Q1′+Q2′=C1V′+C2V′=(C1+C2)V′. Therefore V′=C1+C2Q0=2+820=2 V. Charge on C2: Q2′=C2V′=8×2=16 μC.
