The type of pollution that gets increased during the day time and in the presence of is:
  1. (A)Acid rain
  2. (B)Oxidising smog✓ Correct
  3. (C)Reducing smog
  4. (D)Global warming

Answer: (B)

Solution

In strong sunlight the nitrogen oxides and unburnt hydrocarbons of vehicle exhaust enter a photochemical chain in which is split, the oxygen atom released builds ozone, and the ozone goes on to generate formaldehyde, acrolein and peroxyacetyl nitrate.
All of these products are oxidising agents, so the haze they form grows stronger as the sun rises and as the ozone concentration climbs through the day. The smog of cool damp winter mornings is the reducing kind, built from sulphur dioxide and soot, and it needs neither sunlight nor ozone; acid rain and global warming are separate effects of sulphur and carbon oxides.
The pollution that intensifies in daylight in the presence of ozone is oxidising smog.
