Solution

For series connection:

I_{1} = \frac{2 E}{2 r + 2}

For parallel connection:

I_{2} = \frac{E}{\frac{r}{2} + 2} = \frac{2 E}{r + 4}

Given

I_{1} = I_{2}

\frac{2 E}{2 r + 2} = \frac{2 E}{r + 4}

Simplifying:

2 r + 2 = r + 4

r = 2
