Correct statement about smog is
  1. (A) is present in classical smog
  2. (B)Both and are present in classical smog
  3. (C)Photochemical smog has high concentration of oxidizing agents✓ Correct
  4. (D)Classical smog also has high concentration of oxidizing agents

Answer: (C)

Solution

Classical, or reducing, smog forms in cool damp air and is a mixture of smoke, fog and sulphur dioxide, so it is reducing and holds no appreciable oxidant. Photochemical smog forms when sunlight acts on the oxides of nitrogen and the unburnt hydrocarbons of vehicle exhaust, generating ozone, nitrogen dioxide and peroxyacyl nitrates, which are strong oxidants. The correct statement is that photochemical smog carries a high concentration of oxidising agents.
