Find the radius of curvature of the convex surface of a plano-convex lens, whose focal length is

0.3 m

and the refractive index of the material of the lens is

1.5

.

Answer: $R = 0.15 m = 15 cm$ .

Solution

For a plano-convex lens one surface is flat (

R_{2} = \infty

):

\frac{1}{f} = (μ - 1) \frac{1}{R} \Rightarrow R = (μ - 1) f = (1.5 - 1) (0.3)

R = 0.15 m = 15 cm
