State the reason why GaAs is most commonly used in making of a solar cell.
Solution
A good solar-cell material should absorb a large fraction of incident solar radiation near the surface. Gallium arsenide (GaAs) has a high absorption coefficient and a band gap (~1.4 eV) well suited to the peak of the solar spectrum, so it converts incident light to electrical energy very efficiently. High absorption coefficient and suitable band gap.
