How does the resistivity of
(i) a conductor and
(ii) a semiconductor vary with temperature? Give the reason in each case.
(i) a conductor and
(ii) a semiconductor vary with temperature? Give the reason in each case.
Solution
. (i) In a conductor is fixed; rising increases lattice collisions, so decreases and increases. (ii) In a semiconductor rising breaks covalent bonds, greatly increasing the carrier density ; since , resistivity decreases.
